My sister Paula turned 50 yesterday. It's kind of strange. When we were growing up, I hardly knew my sister. She's only three years older than I am, but when you're little, that three years makes a big difference. I remember sometimes she was mean. She always had long fingernails and would scratch me with them if I pestered her. I remember once thinking that I was going to wake up in the middle of the night and go into her room and cut off all her nails, LOLOL. If she were singing to the radio while we were all in the car, and my sister Julie and I started to sing with her, she'd stop singing because it bothered her that we were singing with her, LOLOL. Still, even though I probably got what I deserved as a little sister, I always thought of Paula as my "big" sister. I loved her and was especially proud that my sister was beautiful and popular and she could draw. Ohh my goodness could she draw. If you needed a picture for a school project, Paula would draw it. When she would lay her drawings down, I would secretly scribble a few lines in a spot that no one would notice, like in the hair or someplace where she had shadowed in something. I figured, by doing that, I had helped with her drawing. What a bratty little sister I was. LOLOL
Over the years, Paula and I have grown to be so close, and guess what, she's not mean at all. It's funny how since growing older, those three years that kept us from practically knowing each other as kids, has completely vanished. In fact, there are times when I feel like I'm the older sister. For instance; reguarding using a meat thermometer. "But how does the thermometer know when the roast is cooked?" LOL. Remember that Paula?
My sister turned 50 yesterday, and it's kind of strange. One of us three girls is fifty now. It doesn't seem like she's fifty. She doesn't act like fifty, she doesn't think like fifty, she doesn't dress like fifty. But she is, and she's the first of the sisters to be there. I guess now that she's 50, she's back to being my older sister again, LOL. Just kidding Paula. Don't worry, Julie and I are right behind you.

I hope you had a great birthday.
May God continue to bless you with many happy and healthy years. And I thank God for blessing me with two of the best sisters ever.
Love,
Janice
Ohhhh Jannie!
ReplyDeleteYou made me laugh and cry. Strangely, turning 50 was much easier than I thought it would be and that's thanks to you, your wonderful family, and the rest of our amazing family. I love you all.
Your big sister.
Great job Janice on your post. I can see it so clearly how the three of you must have been!
ReplyDeletePaula, we had a great day and were all so happy to be there to celebrate, your half century; your five decades; your fifty years.
Seriously, Steve did an awesome job and was so excited about this occasion many days prior. He wanted it to be special for you and I guess you could say he accomplished that. So glad you guys came over afterwards.
Love,
Mark
This is what I remember about my "50 year old sister." We had to go to bed earlier than Paula. She stayed up another half hour, hour later than us. One night, after I had been in bed for atleast a half hour, Paula went to bed. Her bedroom was across the hall. A few minutes after she gets into bed, I hear "Julie, come here for a minute." Wondering what she wanted, I drag myself out of bed and sleepily walk across the hall. At the doorway of her room, I ask what she wants? She looks at me from her bed all snuggled in under her covers, and says, "will you shut my light?"
ReplyDeleteI love my sisters very much. We are all close in very completely different ways. But I'll tell ya. No one has better sisters than me.
